Pretty often I get asked about getting started in product management. It’s a simple question that is hard to answer!
Usually, people asking this question don’t want the theory and process of product management. They want to dip their toe in the pool of product management before deciding to go into the pool!
I thought writing an article about the key characteristics product manager would help me better answer the question about getting started in product management.
As part of this article, I also pulled together all my articles that would help a new product manager learn about product management.
The key characteristics of a product manager are:
hands-on execution
on-the-job learning
execution of strategies
data analysis
team collaboration
time management skills building
It is a good list of product manager skills. It still doesn’t answer how to get started in product management.
