I frequently debate with myself about the “borders” of my product. At what point do I say “That issue is outside of my control.”? I know there is a point where I need to deliver and let others do their part.
With the complexity of Cloud and as-a-service offers, I now get to debate product borders with a virtual team of product managers. In my environment, clear product borders mean you deliver and have accomplishments to show at the end of the year.
Discussions of solution-building efforts, such as meeting with product managers, learning about related products, and researching customer expectations, are greeted with time concerns.
I wrote this article to find a middle ground between my product and a full solution. I landed on the suggestions in this article:
