What Prompted this Article?

I was pretty riled up! The product team was waiting for Sam, a product manager, to finish:

  • A contract template update

  • Notes from a recent customer meeting

  • An announcement of a recent customer win

  • A summary to stakeholders on quarterly product business

The product team was waiting for him. He seemed unaware that he was holding up the team.

I asked him about these items because I needed them too.

Sam’s answer: These items are done. He didn’t see any reason to review them or tell others he was done.

I wrote this article to understand why product managers don’t want to finish their work.
