What Prompted this Article?

After writing about product manager superpowers, a few readers asked about good judgment as a superpower. This got me thinking about some of the confusing things I’ve seen in product management.

Some decisions just seem wrong on the surface!

I wrote about some decisions that seemed to be bad judgment:

  • A product leader asking the same question to multiple product managers

Reason - to get multiple perspectives

  • A product leader being overly conservative on a forecast

Reason - historically it takes a while to ramp up sales

  • A product leader who won’t halt a committed project to take on a bigger project

Reason - big projects have many unknowns

I wrote the article to help product managers think about the consequences of their decisions.
